FOUNDER: Sharon Mkisi, Woman of Vision

Sharon Mkisi is a senior health care professional who has nursing, social work, and administrative experience. As a Senior Program Manager, Sharon has been instrumental in developing and leading programs at both the municipal and provincial levels within the Alberta and BC health care systems as well as the non-profit sector.

In 1999, Sharon felt compelled to use her health care skills as a volunteer with the Mennonite Central Committee in East Africa. During her three year contract, she developed a real love for the people of Tanzania. She has a vision for helping Tanzanians develop to their full potential.

To bring this vision to reality, Sharon and her husband, James Mkisi, founded Baraka Community Care in 2003. The organization is governed by a board that oversees day-to-day operations. Administration offices are located in Chemainus, BC and Morogoro, Tanzania, East Africa.
