Sustainable Programs Baraka Community Care Connections has activities that have a beginning and end date as projects. They become a program, or part of a program, once the building, establishment, or project development is complete.
Sustainable programs are the key to building strong families and communities. After assessing local needs, BARAKA introduces programs that respond to identified needs. Where possible, Baraka involves local people in the construction of buildings and other projects where relevant skills are available.
All programs are meant to offer hope and assistance to those who have little or no hope. They are not meant to be replacements for existing programs.
Healthy Living Skills BARAKA teaches healthy living habits such as good nutrition and sickness prevention. Women’s health and child care programs will help reduce infant mortality. Other programs address the complex social, community and health issues related to the spread of HIV/AIDS.
Clean Water
Access to clean water is key to preventing diarrhea, dysentery, and other life threatening diseases. BARAKA is searching for a partner to help introduce water filtration technology developed in Canada and other nations.
Hospice Care
BARAKA has identified the need for a hospice where people living with HIV/AIDS and other illnesses can be treated with compassion. They can live in peace and die with dignity….without the stigma and disrespect often associated with the disease.
Seniors Health
Baraka provides food and clothing to frail seniors unable to support themselves. Often their own children have died before them, leaving them on their own without family or government assistance. More and more frequently, grandmothers are left to care for their grandchildren without any means of earning a living. Baraka would also like to assist others who are physically disabled and not capable of working.
Education
Education is central to personal growth, community sustainability, and economic viability. Educational programs begin with children and youth. Life skill programs are offered to adult learners.
Economic Stability
Micro credit programs offer support to women and others who don't have access to funds. With these loans, people are able to start small businesses that are sustainable and contribute to the local economy. |
